Lando Norris Edges Out Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored his teammate at each of the last five race weekends.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who seized the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, outpaced the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Piastri had been the leading McLaren during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the sole competitor to go off, if briefly, when he rotated at the fourth corner during the early running.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to avoid just a minor contact of the wall.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho turn before the final corner on to the main straight.
Hamilton finished practice in 19th, trailing team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with the German's Sauber in third, 0.619secs slower than Piastri's best.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
